At the same meeting at which the mayor is selected, the city council shall also designate one of its members as mayor pro tempore, who shall be that person who received the greatest number of votes in the most recent general municipal city election at which council members are elected. The mayor pro tempore shall perform the duties of the mayor during the mayor's absence or disability. The mayor pro tempore shall serve in this capacity at the pleasure of the city council. (Ord.
